Speak – A Survivor’s Poem

Speak!!

Stale ached surfaced scab

Wounded by an experience not yet lived

On the verge of being crippled by a life I’ve

only but dreamed

I’m constantly plagued by reflection

Taunted by past decisions

Lamenting my current predicament

Hesitating to make a commitment

Aboard the reflection bus

I admit, these are stops in my life I wish

never existed to be remembered

Spotting signposts ignored

That led to wrong turns being explored

All because I was too afraid to speak

Speak up for myself

Speak out against a respected

When I stayed quiet I was complimented

But at what cost?

I feared being bruised by ridicule

Pierced criticism

Crushed by rejection

Chastised by unpopularity

Now I’m scorned by shame

Nursing wounds of silence in silence

Afraid to trust myself let alone another

Yet longing for the companionship of that other

Mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, teachers,

lawyers, leaders, members, spectators, victims

Look at me

Learn from me

Speak!

Even if your voice shakes as you speak, still speak.

Speak louder with every word

Speak until someone hears you

Speak until things change

If you see it happening to another

Speak!

Even if your voice shakes as you speak, speak still.

Speak louder with every word

Speak bolder as you fight for their cause

Speak until someone hears you

Speak until things change

SPEAK!!!

Christians!

Sadly the church isn’t an exception

But Christ is our redemption

Sometimes He uses His people as a means of grace

The past we can never replace

But the future is ours to change

SPEAK!!!!!
